Course Overview
The split pedal chair is especially good for upright functional re-training and can perform an essential element of many rehabilitation and fitness programs. Often considered the second piece of equipment, after the reformer of course, that many smaller studio’s choose, understanding its importance within a program, or as a stand-alone apparatus is essential.
The Pilates Chair is currently one of the fastest growing group exercise classes in the USA due to its huge versatility, but relatively low cost and small space occupancy that the chair delivers to a studio. Exercises range from standing, to sitting, to kneeling and even lying, be it across the chair or on the mat and using the chair for added difficulty and resistance.
Workshops will develop and refine visual, tactile and audio cueing, one to one program planning, home exercise program planning and group teaching for students to develop their skills and confidence to become comprehensive and articulate teachers.
The program will look at individual teaching and 1:1 program planning as well as discuss how to run mixed studio sessions where you incorporate other pieces of equipment into a group session.

Teaching Practice
This is the part of the course our Master Trainer Melanie will take over from Sarah. In this section we are going to go over all the exercises again but in quicker succession and we ask if possible that you have someone to act as your client for you to practice teaching the movements. It is not essential but it is a good opportunity for you to utilise.
We also incorporate 2 classes a beginner and intermediate class at the start of each practice session, which we want you to use for your self practice whilst you have access to the course content.

We hope that you have thoroughly enjoyed your course with us, so what is next,….
Once your feedback form is completed, we will submit your certificate of completion.
First thing to ask is….
Which courses have you already completed or certified in and what is your end goal?
If you have completed a Matwork Certification and your end goal is to add APPI Split Pedal Chair Instructor to your repertoire, then all you need to do is complete the logbook and the Split Pedal Chair solo practical exam (details can be found below)
Or alternatively your end goal might be that you want to become a APPI Fully Certified Instructor (our gold standard) and you have already completed a Matwork Certification and possibly the APPI Reformer Certification, and you are planning to complete the rest of the APPI Cadillac and Arc Barrel courses too, then we would advise for you to complete all the individual modules of the Large Equipment Series and then take the Large Equipment Exam which is in 2 parts and incorporates all 4 pieces of the large equipment. This way you can gain the Gold Standard of APPI Fully Certified Instructor and there is only a 2 part exam to complete rather than multiple practical exams.
Why should I sit the certification exam?
- Gain a new career
- Stand out in an interview
- Start your own business
- Work wherever and whenever you like
- Demand a pay rise as a specialist instructor
- Increase your results with patients and clients
- Expand your services and offerings
- Gain a sporting team or corporate Pilates contract
APPI has spent years developing what is now recognised as the premier Pilates Rehabilitation program. By gaining a qualification as a Cadillac Certified Pilates Instructor you are gaining an entire new career. In today’s world this qualification is just as valuable as any degree or work experience. Many of our graduates are now running successful Pilates businesses, be it stand alone classes, studio’s or sporting and corporate contract work.
