Course Overview
One of the world\\\'s most popular Pilates training programs! APPI Pilates teaches you a fully integrated Matwork Pilates program that can be used in any clinical setting, without the need for specialized equipment. This highly popular matwork training series, currently run throughout Australia and Europe, is dedicated to detailed and accurate Pilates teaching.
Based on the most up to date evidence of spinal stability, pelvic stability, strength and conditioning and pain—this is the essential Pilates training tool for all health professionals. The APPI have analyzed all 34 traditional Matwork exercises, and broken them down into a step-by-step guide from day 1 Pain, right through to elite level sport. Most importantly, every stage has a clinical reason as to why you would choose that exercise for your client.
Day 1
- Participate in a practice session to experience the beginner level of APPI Pilates
- Outline the 8 principles of Pilates
- Develop a sound foundation of the Pilates key elements
- Discuss the relevant scientific evidence for the APPI Method
- Examine the beginner levels of the static and dynamic APPI Pilates exercises
- Assess how to incorporate visual imagery into your teaching
- Identify how to analyze lumbar and pelvic instabilities
- Directly link current segmental stabilization and pelvic stability research to Pilates matwork movements
- Learn a range of matwork movements for lumbopelvic, scapulothoracic stabilization, sports rehabilitation and ante and post natal stabilization training
- Develop astute cueing and communication skills to optimize learning
Day 2
- Participate in a practice session to experience the intermediate level of APPI Pilates
- Identify how to analyze and assess the deep neck flexor muscles
- Examine the 9 contraindicated Pilates exercises and why they are dangerous
- Perform the beginner level rotary stability exercises
- Outline the 5 stage Rehabilitation Model
- Discuss how to design clinically reasoned programs for clients with pain

This dynamic 1 day course explores the requirements of the dancer and the demands of regime to provide a broad understanding of Pilates based dance rehabilitation.
Course Content
Pilates for Dancers looks at the specific needs of the dancer, with the focus on ballet, in relation to common injuries, technique flaws, determining pointe shoe readiness, and how to choose or modify the Pilates exercises to be more specific to the dancer population. During this course you will take an in-depth look at the lumbopelvic region, the hip and the foot and ankle, as well as consider the necessity of mobilization and the importance of proprioception and balance re-education.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the basic ballet positions of dance
- Consider the evidence based pointe readiness assessment tests when treating dancers
- Identify common flaws of turn out and ankle positioning
- Identify common overuse injuries sustained by the dance population
- Recognize how rehabilitation Pilates exercises can be used to address the specific needs of a dancer for the lumbopelvic region, hip, foot and ankle, as well as mobility and balance/proprioception
- Design clinically reasoned rehabilitation programs using APPI Pilates exercises for the dance population

Fees: Fees for courses will include tutorials, manuals, morning and afternoon tea and a certificate of attendance. APPI America takes no responsibility for any additional costs incurred outside of the fees charged.
Matwork and CPD Cancellations and Transfers: Cancellations and transfers are accepted with written notice 14 days prior to the start date. There is a $60.00 admin fee per cancellation or transfer. Participants are allowed to transfer twice, after which no refunds will be given. Once you are within 14 days of the course start date, no cancellations, transfers or refunds will be permitted.
Equipment and Reformer Series Cancellations and Transfers: Cancellations and transfers are accepted with written notice 14 days prior to the start date. There is a admin fee of 20% of the original payment per cancellation or transfer. Once you are within 14 days of the course start date, no cancellations, transfers or refunds will be permitted.
Insufficient funds: A $30 fee will be charged for invalid cheques or declined credit card transactions due to insufficient funds.
3rd Party Payments: If a third party is responsible for payment, the attendee space on the chosen program will not be confirmed until full payment has been received by APPI USA. Only once full payment is received will the confirmation letter be sent out to the delegate and their space reserved.
Pregnancy Guidelines: In the first trimester, all courses should be suitable for an uncomplicated pregnancy. This is providing that you exercise pre-pregnancy and have discussed this with you GP / Midwife. However, with the exception of our Ante & Post Natal course, we would generally recommend against participating in courses after the 1st trimester, as you will not be able to experience all the movements yourself during this time.
