Non-operative management of radial club hand:
- Passive stretching, targeting radial sided structures
- Serial static splinting to correct radial deviation of the wrist
- Fabrication of new splints as the child grows.
Case Example:
Annely has bilateral radial club hand. Complete absence of her radii bilaterally. Annely had good tolerance for therapy when fabricating her splints. Her wrists were placed out of radial deviation as much as tolerated. After a month of wearing the splints to bed, Annely was scheduled to have the splints adjusted to bring her wrists in a more neutral position. Annely has active elbow motion, care was taken to allow elbow flexion while wearing her splints.

Annely’s X-rays confirm complete absence of her radii.
Annely has all four fingers and thumbs.

As you can see, Annely was comfortable in her new bedtime splints.
