Evidence shows 1 in 3 women experience symptoms related to their pelvic floor at some point in their lives. Symptoms include but are not limited to incontinence, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, and/or sexual dysfunction. Pilates and the Pelvic Floor is a 1-day CPD course designed to arm Pilates instructors with the knowledge they need to ensure they have a good understanding of pelvic health and how to adapt their Pilates techniques to ensure they are offering their clients with pelvic floor dysfunction the very best. Designed by APPI Presenter and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Pippa Carter.

This course offers education on the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor, the function of the pelvic floor in relation to the body as a whole, an understanding of pelvic floor dysfunction and considerations needed in relation to exercise, knowledge of key exercises for the pelvic floor and how to apply your Pilates exercises to create function in the pelvic floor.

The course content has been designed, filmed and is delivered to you by our Master Trainers and Expert Pippa Carter, each part of your course has been broken down into manageable chunks for you to watch, stop, start and refresh over the 7 days that you have access for.

Pippa Carter is a Musculoskeletal and Pelvic Health physiotherapist.  She has gained experience and knowledge from a wide variety of settings from the NHS to the private sector. She has been presenting for the APPI since 2015 and currently runs a successful Physiotherapy and Pilates Clinic in South Wales.  Alongside this she works at Spire Cardiff Hospital as a Highly Specialist Physiotherapist.  As part of this role, she works closely with specialist Gynaecologists to provide physiotherapy services to women experiencing Pelvic Health symptoms.

This course has been developed from her passion for Pilates and the benefits she has found it has had in helping women experiencing symptoms relating to their pelvic floor. She wanted to develop a course for Pilates instructors to help increase their knowledge of pelvic floor conditions and how they can adapt their Pilates skills to ensure they are offering the best when working with women who are experiencing pelvic floor related conditions.
