Using the Reformer for Joint Replacement

Pilates is the perfect rehabilitation for people who have undergone total joint arthroplasty.

Since its introduction in the 1960s, hip replacement surgery has proved to be one of the most effective types of surgery in modern medical history. Most people experience a significant reduction in pain and, to a lesser extent, improvement in their range of movement.

In 2013, the NHS performed just over 66,000 hip procedures in England and Wales. More than 70,000 knee replacements are carried out in England and Wales each year, and the number is rising. Most people who have a total knee replacement are over 65 years old. (NHS UK).

As Physiotherapists and Pilates Instructors we are experts in movement analysis and provide a correct approach to rebuilding balance and alignment of the body post operatively for these clients.

This workshop reviews the current evidence to support the use of a Pilates programme in the rehabilitation of joint replacement patients and look specifically at case studies of these patients. It will cover the exercises that can be used and the modifications required when using the reformer to create a positive movement experience for the client as they regain their function after surgery.

You will receive unlimited access to this workshop and be able to watch it as many times as you like!
