Your course materials:

APPI have based as much of your course materials around online applications as we could. The below books are all available to download direct to tablet or PC.

This means your study resources are at hand at all times, and avoids you carrying large books around with you. If you are not familiar with the use of Apps and wish to use traditional text books.

Please download or purchase the following books:

Pilates Anatomy:                        Return to Life Through

Rael Isacowitz &                                    Contrology

Karen Clippinger                                    J.H Pilates

Please purchase a hard copy of:

The Anatomy Coloring book

Wynn Kapit & Lawrence Elson

Please download the Apps:

Visible Body

(Anatomy & Physiology Edition)

Your self-study anatomy will be delivered via the Visible Bodies App. This state-of-the-art application delivers the greatest standard of digitalized anatomical content on the market. Through this app you can learn the full skeletal system, muscle system and all the actions of the muscles that you will be learning about in your practical sessions.

Your support materials will provide ongoing guidance and support to assist you in your anatomical study.

Your Pilates Self Practice:

In addition to your Anatomical Studies it is imperative that you begin your Pilates Practice.  In your Supplementary Materials Booklet, you have a log book to complete your Pilates Practice.

Please complete the pre-course Pilates Class attendance or DVD Class Practice. You may be an experienced Pilates enthusiast and have been to classes for many months or years. In this case, if you have not attended APPI taught classes, we ask that you seek out an APPI Trained teacher in your area (contact info@appiamerica.com for your closest trainer) or use the DVD as a way of embracing the APPI Method.

In total we recommend you attending at least 10 Pilates Classes or DVD classes prior to starting the course. This will allow you to both learn the Pilates movements, but also to get your own body ready for the demands of the Pilates training.

We have also launched our APPI PilatesTV channel, which has 100s of online classes for you to subscribe and get practicing from home!

Logbook requirements

For all of our certification series we do require all our students to complete their log books in full prior to taking their exam.

There have been some questions raised with how do I complete these requirements whilst in this current climate…… and here is how.

Self-practice – these are the hours that we want you to practice your own Pilates ability. In essence this is all about you practicing the movements direct from your course manuals in your own time. Look at the exercise, close the manual and practice it over and over again. In your starter pack you will receive the Matwork Series DVD which you can also use to practice the exercises.

Observation hours – these are the hours that you need to observe a instructor delivering a class, looking at how they interact with the class participants, how they have set up the class, the language that they use, the tone of their voice, visual cues etc. We understand that in the current climate there will not be any face to face classes occurring however you can watch our Online Classes that have been pre-recorded where there are participants there, here is a list of our specific classes that can count towards your observation hours.

APPI Master Class with Glenn Withers – Pilates to Aid Recovery and Mobilization

Master Class with Glenn Withers – Power Pilates on the Mat

3D Standing Pilates – A Class with Sarah Chambers

Movement Control Post-Spinal Surgery with Melanie Bryant

All Level Shoulder & Neck Strengthening Pilates Class with Melanie Bryant

Beginner Level Mat Class with Caroline Kinash

Beginner Reformer on the Mat Pilates Class – Sarah Chambers

Intermediate Level Matwork Class – With Caroline Kinash

Intermediate Movement Sequencing Class with Melanie Bryant

Improver Mat with APPI Clinician & Presenter Claire Jacobs

Full Body Theraband Workout with APPI Master Trainer Melanie Bryant

Intermediate Reformer on the Mat Pilates Class – Sarah Chambers

Introduction to Spikey Balls with Sarah Chambers

Introduction to APPI Principles and Movements with Melanie Bryant

Intermediate Level Soft Ball Pilates to Challenge Stability with Melanie Bryant

Lower Limb Strength & Pelvic Stability with APPI Master Trainer Nicky Croft

Pilates on foam roller with APPI Master Trainer Nicky Croft

Pilates on the Swiss Ball with APPI Clinician Maria Moreno

Intermediate Matwork class using the Oval Balance Pads and the Pilates Band with Sarah Chambers

You can also join in on our live stream classes to complete your observation hours.

Practice teaching – these are the hours you need to complete by practice teaching to friends, family or colleagues. Obviously in this current climate this is slightly more difficult, you can of course practice teaching to any adult that lives in your home. Furthermore, we are now allowing virtual teaching practice over the various online services where you can connect with friends, family or colleagues via a video messaging serviced and this will all count to you log book hours.  But we do ask you to mindful who you chose to practice with. Make sure they have no under lying health issues or are a high risk patient e.g. ante or post-natal, osteoporotic etc. As these clients would need the tactile feedback and guidance whenever completing any form of exercise.

Your Anatomy and Physiology self study Timeline:

You can begin your preparation and study work for your Pilates training at any time after completing your booking with APPI.
To begin, we ask you to use your Visible Bodies App and your Anatomy Coloring Book. We believe this is a great foundation tool to understand the anatomy of the body.
